Classic regions
Italian heritage
Since its inception, Enotria has devoted a significant portion of its efforts to importing prestigious names from the Italian wine scene. This journey started with founder Remo and was further developed by our Italian wine buyer Sergio De Luca upon his arrival in 1985. Today, our Italian heritage continues to be a cornerstone of our identity. Enotria not only solidified its position as a major player in the Italian wine business within the on-trade sector but also consistently spearheaded trends in Italian wines across Britain’s off-trade. In the late 80s and early 90s, Enotria dominated the Lambrusco market, successfully meeting the surging demand from British consumers. Building on this triumph, Enotria also played a pioneering role in propelling Pinot Grigio and Prosecco to widespread popularity earlier this century.
Our impact extended to Italian fine wine, too. Enotria took a leading role in the Barolo revolution in Piedmont during a period when the “Barolo Boys” challenged the region's conventions, catapulting the then-deprived Piedmont region into modernity and establishing it as one of the world's premier fine wine regions. Our own Sergio – who was himself a member of the group of vinous revolutionaries – established strong relationships with fellow Barolo Boys such as Chiara Boschi of Pira and Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta, who are still with us today.
At the same time, Enotria has also been at the forefront of the qualitative exploit of Italy's south, thanks to our partnership with Sicily's Planeta and its visionary founder Diego Planeta. More recently, we have been exploring new developments within the Italian wine landscape, particularly focusing on exciting advancements in Lazio – the birthplace of our founder, Remo Nardone – with the emergence of the “super-Romans” movement.
Enotria's prominent standing as a market leader is undoubtedly due to its pioneering role in shaping trends amid the remarkable growth of the modern Italian wine industry over the past five decades. And today, our Italian heritage endures through our robust Italian wine portfolio, featuring bottles from all major regions that span the spectrum from entry-level to top-notch offerings.
France
While Enotria has deep Italian roots, our founder recognised the necessity of offering a competitive selection of French wines to meet the demands of Britain’s dynamic wine market. As a result, Enotria began cultivating strong relationships with leading French producers early on. From our inception, we partnered with prestigious names like Trimbach, arguably one of Alsace’s finest and best-known maisons. Over time, our French wine portfolio expanded significantly, encompassing all key regions and featuring highly regarded producers such as Maison Joseph Drouhin, Louis Michel, Château Léoube, Domaine Laporte, and multiple wines from the renowned Bordelaise family, the Lurtons. As well as still wine we have always championed quality focussed, grower producers in Champagne and Sparkling wine. We have a triumvirate of exceptional grower Champagne houses including Champagne Jacquart, Champagne Gobilliard, and Champagne Robert that are some of the very best quality to value ratio sparklers you’ll find anywhere.
Spain
Thanks to the work of our wine buyer, Pete Wallbridge, who divides his time between Spain and the UK, we have been able to establish a strong Spanish wine offering. This includes wines from the well-established denominaciones such as Rioja and Ribera del Duero; respected Spanish wine names such as Vinedos Y Bodegas Sierra Cantabria, , Pago de Carraovejas, Bodegas Chivite, Frank Massard, and Martín Códax; and emerging regions, from La Mancha to Jumilla, and from Catalunya in the East to Galicia in the West. Pete's regular presence in Spain ensures that we stay ahead of the curve regarding new developments in the country's wine scene, allowing us to consistently expand the scope of our Spanish offering. More recent additions include up-and-coming Jumilla stars Bodegas Cerrón and the very exciting Bodegas Verum leading a revolution in La Mancha
Rest of Europe
In addition to our key European regions of Italy, France, and Spain, our buyers have dedicated themselves to ensuring that our portfolio reflects the vibrant diversity of the wider European wine scene. Over the years, this led to the inclusion of prestigious agencies from various Portuguese regions, spanning from Vinho Verde to Lisboa, as well as selections from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece, and Lebanon. These regions are not an afterthought for Enotria, as we collaborate with top-tier producers, such as Domaine Sigalas in Santorini, Sauska in Tokaji, and Quinta do Crasto in the Douro. In addition to importing and distributing wine from established wine countries, we also champion our homegrown wine. We proudly offer selections from some of the leading names in English winemaking, sourced from Hampshire, Sussex, and Devon.
