Tasting note
The 2019 Rutherford Reserve Cabernet embodies our benchland terroir. Aromas of dark berries, earth, and oak lead to classic Cabernet flavors. Blackberry, cassis, and wild rose intertwine with subtle spice and oak notes. The mouthfeel is rich with polished tannins. Plush and smooth, it finishes long. A Rutherford AVA standout.
Viticulture
The 2019 vintage blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Malbec from BV Ranches No. 1, No. 2, and No. 10. On the western Rutherford Bench, alluvial fan soils from the Mayacamas Mountains provide diverse mineral-rich composition. Deeply rooted vines yield complexity, minerality, and Rutherford's distinctive character.
Vinification
Grapes were hand-picked, destemmed, and cold soaked for gentle extraction. This nurtured an elegant, layered fruit profile and Rutherford Dust tannins. During fermentation, cap was pumped over for skin integration. Over 80% new French oak and a touch of Malbec/Petit Verdot added to balance fruit with toasty notes, enriching the flavor profile.
