Tasting note
Bright limey-straw colour. An aromatic nose with fresh lime/ lemon and quartzy silica mineral characters, balanced with notes of toasted nuts, white peach and a soft creaminess. Palate is bright and again minerally with the same attractive balance of pert citrus zing and layers of texture.
Viticulture
Kooyong vineyard in Mornington Peninsula, Tuerong, on Miocene soils. Wines aim to reveal terroir by blending geology, soils, climate. 2015 Kooyong Clonale Chardonnay blends Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards, 8.1 hectares in total.
Vinification
The grapes are gently whole-bunch pressed directly into French oak barriques (7% new) where fermentation commences spontaneously with ambient yeasts. After fermentation, the wine is aged on lees (without battonage) for 9 months. It is bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.
Food Match
