Tasting note
A block of luscious Pinot Noir on Australia's Mornington Peninsula, Ferrous offers up sweetly earthy fruit, violet and pot pourri, with a squeeze of blood orange.
Viticulture
Ferrous block, exclusive Pinot Noir, east of Haven, sloping, rapid drainage, exposed to winds like Meres. Low yields from unique orientation, free drainage, and minimal protection. Soil rich in ironstone pebbles yields concentrated, tannic wines.
Vinification
Our wine was fermented in a large concrete tank, including 10% whole bunches, with spontaneous fermentation using ambient yeasts over 18 days. After fermentation, it went into French oak barriques (20% new) for indigenous malolactic fermentation. Only one rack during a 14-month maturation period, followed by bottling without fining or filtration.
Food Match
Excellent with roast lamb or poultry
