Tasting note
Dark cherry, violet and cinnamon spice aromas complement red fruit, chocolate and subtle spice flavours on the palate. The fruit flavours are framed with supple tannins and a core of juicy acidity. This wine is immediately enjoyable but will continue to drink well for the next eight years.
Viticulture
Southern Valleys' clay soils limit vine growth, yielding concentrated Pinot Noir with supple tannins. Its inland location and cooler nights enhance ripening. Despite a slow 2019 start with low temperatures and rainfall, it hosts Marlborough's oldest hillside Pinot Noir vines.
Vinification
Hot, dry weather led to early ripening and harvest. Hand-picked from Dijon clone vineyards in Waihopai/Omaka Valleys, fruit underwent cold soak for 5 days, including 28% whole bunch. Aged 10 months in 225L French Oak Barriques, 38% new oak.
Food Match
Match with roasted lamb and venison dishes.
