Tasting note
Made only in exceptional vintages, this is superb Pinot Noir, savoury and complex, lightly fragrant with flowers and mouthwateringly loaded with flavours of raspberry and redcurrant.
Viticulture
From steep hill block, clay-rich Raupo Creek vineyard in Marlborough's Southern Valley. Hand-tended vines, balanced canopy. Low yield, under 1kg per vine, one bunch per shoot. Thinning for complexity.
Vinification
Hand-sorted, destemmed, cold-soaked. Wild yeast fermentation, daily plunging. 2-week post-ferment maceration, lightly pressed, French oak (14% new). Natural malolactic, 18 months barrel maturation. Unfiltered, unfined bottling.
Food Match
A deep and rich wine made for earthy, wild mushroom dishes, autumnal root vegetables and roasted game.
