Tasting note
This is full of wood, caramel and fudge, like a box of delights, with a mellow, fruity finish.
Viticulture
Taylor’s First Estate Reserve Port celebrates a 1744 estate acquisition near Régua. Committed to quality, independence drives finest Ports. Quinta de Vargellas, Douro Valley's gem, yields rare Vintage Ports from historic Vinha Velha vines. Biodiversity-focused, their efforts earned the BES Biodiversity Prize for conservation and sustainability.
Vinification
In September, villagers handpick grapes by the river, moving uphill over 3 weeks. Heat-loving varieties are planted near the river. Most grapes foot-trodden in lagares for flavour and colour. Port aged in oak casks, blended at Taylor's in spring. Tawny wines mature in 550-litre pipes.
Food Match
Excellent with soft cheeses such as brie; and a superb dessert wine, particularly with dishes made with coffee or almonds, Taylor 10 Year Old Tawny is delicious served lightly chilled at the end of the meal.
